DESCRIPTION:
This paper summarises and extends the argument of my 2011 book&nbsp\;Difficult Atheism&nbsp\;to argue that contemporary &ldquo\;atheism&rdquo\; is an umbrella&nbsp\;term&nbsp\;used to describe three distinct positions. I briefly explore these three positions in the work of French philosophers Alain Badiou\, Jean-Luc Nancy and Quentin Meillassoux\, showing that they seek to position themselves in relation to the theological in three mutually exclusive ways. As well as being of interest to scholars working in contemporary French thought\, the talk aims to offer to a broader audience a framework for understanding and evaluating modern atheisms.
\n
For any information and to register your interest\, please contact Dr Cal Ledsham by email:&nbsp\;callan.ledsham@ctc.edu.au
\n
Public Transport: Trams from city: 109 (to Box Hill)\, 12 (to Victoria Gardens): Tram\, stop 13 (Landsdowne St. ACU).
\n
Buses: From City: 302\, 303\, 304\, 305\, 309\, 318\, 350\, 905\, 906\, 907\, 908.
