DESCRIPTION:
This is the second in a series of one-day conferences that analyse and discuss the various ways in which animals have been used in the humanities and contemporary arts\, the political and theoretical implications of this use\, and the manner in which animals have resisted this appropriation such that they might enter into political discourse. With examples taken from philosophy\, history\, and the arts\, it will also examine whether there is an animal political identity\, and even new ways of thinking about struggle\, revolt\, and revolution that might be called &lsquo\;animal&rsquo\;.

Programme

10.00am-10.30am &nbsp\; Registration
\n
10.30am-10.45.am&nbsp\; Introduction
\n
10.45am-12.00pm &nbsp\; Anat Pick (University of East London)\,&nbsp\;&lsquo\;Falling Towards the Heights: Worldliness and Animal Ethics&rsquo\;
\n
Respondent: Catherine Wheatley (Kings College\, London)

12.00pm-1.00pm &nbsp\; Lunch (not provided)

1.00pm-2.15pm &nbsp\; &nbsp\;Erica Fudge (University of Strathclyde)\,&nbsp\;Milking Other Men's Beasts
Respondent: Wendy Wheeler (London Metropolitan University)

2.15pm-3.30pm &nbsp\; &nbsp\;Jonathan Burt (Series Editor\, Animal &ndash\; Reaktion Books)
&lsquo\;A pensive nature\, a mechanical/And slightly detestable operandum&rsquo\;: The Elision of Animals and Cinema&rsquo\;
Respondent: John Mullarkey (Kingston University)

3.30pm-3.45pm &nbsp\; Coffee (not provided\, but available at NHM caf&eacute\; nearby)

3.45pm-5.00pm &nbsp\; Andr&eacute\; Dias (Universidade Nova de Lisboa)&nbsp\;Animal Heterogenesis
Respondent: Richard Iveson (Goldsmiths)

5.00pm-6.00pm &nbsp\; Roundtable
\n
Organised through The London Graduate School and the Centre for Arts and Humanities Research\, Natural History Museum\, London
\n
Admission is free but advance registration must be made.&nbsp\;

Online Registration:
http://unrulycreatures.eventbrite.com

For further information contact:&nbsp\;Professor John Mullarkey:&nbsp\;j.mullarkey@kingston.ac.uk
\n
Conference Website:
