DESCRIPTION:
The Unconscious\, Desire and Politics&nbsp\; &nbsp\;
\n
What role do desire and the unconscious play in the socio-political realm? The political virulence of unconscious drives and inclinations has traditionally been discussed in terms of a collective imaginary\, an ensemble of images and stories that bear the hopes and fears of a people. However\, the Deleuzian and Guattarian notion of a molecular unconscious functions differently. It does not reside in the imaginary. It is real\, constituted by flows of desire that produce connections and assemblages between and across heterogeneous non-signifying elements. These unconscious molecular processes of desire not only constitute and stabilize socio-political formations\, but also effectuate political crises\, phases of upheaval and revolution.
\n
The workshop aims to sharpen the understanding of Deleuze&rsquo\;s and Guattari&rsquo\;s notion of desire\, the way that it operates in a molecular unconscious and produces effects in the socio-political field.
\n
10.00-10.50&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Anne Sauvagnargues (Paris Ouest)\, &ldquo\;A Schizoanalytic Cartography of Desire&rdquo\;
\n
10.50-11.35&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Daniela Voss (Deakin University)\, &ldquo\;On Desire&rdquo\;
\n
11.35-10.45&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; break
\n
11.45-12.30&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Jon Roffe (UNSW)\, &ldquo\;Deleuze&rsquo\;s Melancholy Politics&rdquo\;&rsquo\;
\n
12.30-13.30&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; lunch
\n
13.30-14.15&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Gregory Flaxman (North Carolina\, Chapel Hill) &ldquo\;Molecular America&rdquo\;
\n
14.15-15.00&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Gregg Lambert (Syracuse) &ldquo\;Revolutionary-Becoming&rsquo\; and the &lsquo\;War Machine&rsquo\;&rdquo\;
\n
15.00-15.10&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; break
\n
15.10-15.55&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; James Williams (Deakin University) &ldquo\;The Political Unconscious of Signs: Desire\, Process and Practice&rdquo\;
