Understanding Value Six

We are pleased to invite abstracts for submission to the sixth annual Understanding Value conference\, a three day graduate conference\, to be held on the \;19th-21st \;of July 2017\, at the University of Sheffield (UK). The sixth in a line of successful conferences on the topic of value\, Understanding Value provides a stimulating and supportive environment for postgraduate students\, and those who have recently been awarded their PhDs\, to share and discuss their work.
Traditionally\, discussions of value have ranged over whether moral and aesthetic \;evaluative statements are objective or subjective\, \;whether or not facts external to our psychology can be reasons\, and how reasons can motivate us at all. But\, at Understanding Value\, we are interested in \;papers addressing much \;broader questions relating to value as well as the more traditional ones. For example\, topics may include\, but are by no means limited to\, discussions of:
We accept submissions from every area of\, and tradition within \;philosophy\, as well as interdisciplinary work \;so long as the proposed paper aims to discuss \;philosophical issues in the region of \;value. \; To get a sense of the diversity of papers we are seeking\, check out the programmes from previous iterations.
We invite submissions from those \;who are currently postgraduates at any level\, or who \;have completed a PhD less than two years before the conference date. Speakers will be allotted 20 minutes for their presentation\, followed by 10 minutes of questions.

Submissions
Please submit abstracts of \;500 words or fewer. Prepare your \;abstract for blind review (i.e.\, \;remove all content \;that may identify you as the author)\, \;and send it \;to valueconference@sheffield.ac.uk by the 14th of April.
Submissions must be accompanied by a cover sheet\, attached as a separate file\, which provides the author(s)'s name(s)\, email address(es)\, institutional affiliation(s)\, and the title of the proposed paper.
The organizers are eager to assemble a demographically diverse program. To aid in this\, \;if you are a member of a group that is underrepresented in professional philosophy and wish to identify yourself as such\, please include this information on your cover sheet as well.
Both files must be in one of these formats: DOC\, DOCX\, PDF\, RTF\, or TXT.
There is a limit of one submission per author.

There will be a small number of accommodation and childcare bursaries available to those in need. Details will be available closer to the conference date.
