DESCRIPTION:<p><strong>Theme:</strong>&nbsp\;This conference aims to encourage diverse dialogues and provide a forum for areas of philosophy that are often undervalued by the canon or that connect the canon to broader contexts outside of philosophy &lsquo\;proper.&rsquo\;</p>\n<p><strong>Topic Areas:</strong> Race\, gender\, sexuality\, implicit bias\, social ontology\, social justice movements\, feminist philosophy of science\, new takes on long-considered problems\, etc.&nbsp\; This list is not meant to be exhaustive.</p>\n<p><strong>Call for Abstracts:&nbsp\;</strong>The Purdue Women in Philosophy invite graduate student submissions of extended abstracts (500-1000 words) on the themes of the conference. Abstracts should be prepared for anonymous review\, and submitted via email by January 27\, 2017. Submission should be made to purduewomeninphil@gmail.com. Participants will be notified of decisions by February 10\, 2017. Allotted presentation time for speakers will be 20 minutes with 10 minutes for Q&amp\;A.</p>\n<p><strong>Keynote Speakers:&nbsp\;</strong></p>\n<p>Tina Botts\, Assistant Professor of Philosophy at California State University: Toward a New Feminist Ethics: From&nbsp\;Care&nbsp\;Ethics to Moral Particularism</p>\n<p>Charlene Seigfried\, Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at Purdue University:&nbsp\;The &ldquo\;Roar Which Lies on the Other Side of Silence&rdquo\;: The Influence of George Eliot&rsquo\;s Middlemarch on Jane Addams&rsquo\;s Pragmatist Perspectivism</p>\n<p><strong>Purdue Faculty Panel: </strong>In addition the the Keynote Speakers listed above\, we will also have a Purdue Faculty Panel featuring the following faculty members:</p>\n<p>Yujia Song\, Visiting Assistant Professor of Philosphy: The Moral Virute of Open-Mindedness</p>\n<p>Tithi&nbsp\;Bhattacharya\,&nbsp\;Associate Professor of History: The Gendered Nature of Labor</p>\n<p>Ann Marie Clark\, Assoiate Professor of Political Science: Human Rights Norms in International Relations</p>\n<p><strong>Graduate Student Travel Awards:</strong>&nbsp\;The conference will also provide three graduate student travel awards. The awards will be given based on mert. Students that have been accepted to present at the conference may apply. To be considered for this award\, accepted participants will submit a full (300 word) paper to purduewomeninphil@gmail.com by March 3\, 2017. Papers should be prepared for ananymous review.
