DESCRIPTION:
Recently\, there has been renewed interest in ignorance\, and in particular\, what it is about an epistemic agent that prevents them from acquiring knowledge or from taking acquired knowledge into account in their actions. We invite contributions dealing with questions like what such epistemic vices are (habits\, character traits\, &hellip\;)\; what sorts of ignorance there are (ignorance that\, ignorance how\, 2nd order ignorance\,&hellip\;)\; what sort of epistemic vice entails what sort of ignorance\; whether\, and if so\, when and how ignorance can or should be overcome\; how to deal with insurmountable ignorance\; how externalists vs internalists about knowledge deal with ignorance\, etc.
\n
We invite submissions from graduate students on the conference topic. We especially encourage submissions from members of groups that are underrepresented in academic philosophy.
\n
Further information available at http://wfap.philo.at/index.php/events/6th-wfap-graduate-conference/
\n
Programme
\n
Tuesday 06/06/17
\n
15:00 &nbsp\;
\n
WELCOME MEETING &ndash\; Caf&eacute\; Diglas\, Schottengasse
\n
17:00 &ndash\; 19.00 room 3D
\n
Keynote 1: Maria Lasonen-Aarnio
\n
Competent Failure\, Incompetent Success
\n
INFORMAL DRINKS / DINNER
\n
&nbsp\;
\n
Wednesday 07/06/17
\n
10:00 &ndash\; 10:45 room 2i
\n
Tim Smartt: Uniqueness\, Luminosity\, &amp\; Epistemic Guidance
\n
11:00 &ndash\; 11:45 room 2i
\n
Selene Arfini: Understanding Ignorance as Invisible\, Distributed\, and Persistent: A Unifying Proposal
\n
12:00 &ndash\; 13:00 room 2i
\n
Marie van Loon &amp\; Melanie Sarzano:
Naivety and Scepticism: Two Faces of the Same Coin
\n
13:00 &ndash\; 14:30 Lunch Break
\n
14:30 &ndash\;&nbsp\;15:15 room 3D
\n
Melanie Altanian: Epistemic Injustice in Scholarly Genocide Denial
\n
15:30 &ndash\; 16:15&nbsp\; room 3D
\n
Charlie Crerar: Snobbery as an intellectual vice&nbsp\;
\n
16:30 &ndash\;&nbsp\;18:00 room 3D
\n
Keynote 2: Alessandra Tanesini
\n
Caring for esteem and intellectual reputation: some epistemic benefits and harms
\n
CONFERENCE DINNER
\n
&nbsp\;
\n
Thursday 08/06/17
\n
10:00 &ndash\; 10:45 room 3D
\n
Alice Moneypenny: When is there a right to challenge?
