SUMMARY:1st Urbino Summer School in Epistemology
UID:20260612T102902Z-iCalPlugin-Grails@philevents-web-bd7db559-gt5qm
TZID:Europe/Rome
LOCATION:Via Timoteo Viti 10\, Urbino\, Italy\, 61029
DESCRIPTION:
Overview:
\n
The goal of the Summer School is to provide an opportunity for highly motivated graduate students (or even advanced undergraduate students) and early-career researchers to learn\, discuss and exchange ideas about currently debated epistemological issues in close contact with internationally renowned experts.
\n
There will be two kinds of sessions\, lectures and group sessions\, which will alternate on each of the four days.
\n
Frontal lectures will be delivered by three leading experts in the field\, on specific topics related to the latest development of their work and of the epistemological debate in general. Each lecture will comprise approximately 45-50 minutes of presentation and 20 minutes of questions and answers.
\n
Parallel group sessions will be led by the same lecturers\, allowing the participants to choose the topic most interesting for them\, and will take a laboratory format. The topics in this format are intended to be broad in scope\, allowing the participants to engage in open discussion on issues that fundamentally shape the landscape of current debates in epistemology\, starting from specific texts read in advance. The list of topics and texts will be provided in due course with the collaboration of our teachers\, but to illustrate the spirit of the proposal\, here is a list of possible topics that the organizers would think suited: internalism and externalism in epistemology\; reliabilism and methods\; scepticism\; knowledge and justification\; knowledge-that and knowledge-how\; knowledge-first epistemology\; contextualism and relativism in epistemology\; naturalism in epistemology.
\n
Each student will therefore have the opportunity to attend 12 lectures and 4 group sessions during the 4 days. Of course there will be ample room for intellectual and philosophical exchanges outside of these academic activities\, in the beautiful setting of late summer evenings offered by Urbino.
\n
&nbsp\;Detailed course description: Tba
\n
&nbsp\;Participation fees
\n
There are two options: (1) enrolment in the school only\, including participation and didactic material\, at the cost of &euro\; 160\,00\; or (2) enrolment-plus-full-board\, &nbsp\;including 5 nights in Urbino and the meals for 4 days of school\, at the cost of &euro\; 400\,00. Accommodation and meals under this option will be provided at a University residence and cafeteria.
\n
This event would not be possible without the contribution of the University of Urbino.
\n
Depending on the availability of funds there may be a few bursaries available to cover in whole or in part the cost of the school (see below on how to apply for these).
\n
&nbsp\;Application
\n
In order to apply\, please send an e-mail message to daniele_sgaravatti@yahoo.it or adriano.angelucci@uniurb.itattaching a brief CV and/or a brief statement of the reasons for your interest in the summer school.
