DESCRIPTION:<p>CALL FOR PAPERS:</p>\n<p>Area: Philosophy and Popular Culture<br> Conference: The Northeast Popular Culture Association<br> Location: The University of Massachusetts Amherst</p>\n<p>Date: October 27th-28th</p>\n<p>The Northeast Popular/American Culture Association (NEPCA) is seeking paper proposals on the topic of Philosophy and Popular Culture for its fall conference to be held at the University of Massachusetts on Friday October 27th and Saturday October 28th\, 2017. We are especially (but not exclusively) interested in papers which explore the relationship of popular culture to philosophical problems of personal identity\, such as (but not limited to) identity persistence\, psychological continuity\, the mind/body problem\, soul theory\, the too-many thinkers problem\, and brute-physical views. This includes as well applications of views of personal identity put forward by specific thinkers (such as by Aristotle\, Plato\, David Lewis\, Descartes\, and other thinkers) to such cultural studies. Any popular culture media focus is welcome\, and other points of contact between philosophy and popular culture will be considered.</p>\n<p>Please submit your paper proposals online. Click on the 2017 Paper Proposals link\, which will take you to a Google Form. You should alert area chair Dr. Anthony G. Cirilla at <a href="mailto:acirilla@niagara.edu">acirilla@niagara.edu</a> that you have put forth a proposal. You can also contact this person for advice on shaping your proposal and (ultimately) your presentation.</p>\n<p>NEPCA presentations are generally 15-20 minutes in length and may be delivered either formally or informally. It also sponsors flash presentations based on the PechaKucha model: 20 slides\, 20 seconds per slide. NEPCA prides itself on holding conferences that emphasize sharing ideas in a non-competitive and supportive environment consisting of graduate students\, independent scholars\, junior faculty\, and senior scholars.</p>
