DESCRIPTION:<p>A one-day workshop on Egoism and Altruism @ ACU Melbourne.</p>\n<p>Featuring talks by</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Professor Roger Crisp (Oxford)</li>\n<li>Professor Tim Mulgan (Auckland)</li>\n<li>Dr Norva Lo (La Trobe)</li>\n<li>Dr Tyler Paytas (ACU)</li>\n</ul>\n<p>The program for the workshop is below.</p>\n<p>This workshop is on Egoism and Altruism broadly constued. And will be of interest to those interested in normative ethics\, social philosophy\, and/or the history of moral philosophy generally as well as to those interested in altruism or egoism more specifically.</p>\n<p>The papers will be pre-circulated in advance (if you've registered\, you will receive the papers a week or so in advance). But the speakers will present for around 30 minutes\, before around 30 minutes of Q&amp\;A. So the workshop will be valuable for those who have not pre-read the papers.</p>\n<p>The workshop will feature talks dealing with the distinction between the self and other\, and whether this can or will be diminished in the future\; whether we should be moral when morality and self-interest conflict\, and if so why\; the history of egoism and altruism\; and whether altruism can have negative as well as positive consequences.</p>\n<p>Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
