DESCRIPTION:
We usually want to have true beliefs\, and having true beliefs usually helps&nbsp\;us attain our practical goals. However\, many philosophers maintain that&nbsp\;there is a more fundamental connection between belief and truth-one that&nbsp\;isn't contingent on our desires or on the practical consequences of&nbsp\;believing the truth. This view is often expressed by the slogan that belief&nbsp\;aims at truth. The main question in this area is whether there really is a&nbsp\;fundamental connection between belief and truth and\, if so\, how we ought to&nbsp\;construe it. A wide range of considerations have been presented as&nbsp\;supporting the view. One is the connection between determining whether to&nbsp\;believe p and determining whether p. Another is the need to distinguish&nbsp\;belief from other cognitive attitudes with apparently similar causal roles&nbsp\;in the production of behaviour. The issue is connected with other important&nbsp\;philosophical questions. One is whether belief\, mental content\, or their&nbsp\;linguistic correlates\, can be said to be normative notions\, as the view that&nbsp\;belief aims at truth seems to entail that true belief is intrinsically&nbsp\;correct\, and false belief intrinsically incorrect. Other related issues&nbsp\;include the involuntariness of belief and the paradoxical appearance of&nbsp\;believing that your current beliefs are not true. teorema invites
submissions of papers on these and related topics for a special issue to be&nbsp\;published in 2013. Articles must be written in Spanish or English and should&nbsp\;not exceed 6\,000 words. For the presentation of their articles\, authors are&nbsp\;requested to take into account the instructions available at:&nbsp\;http://www.unioviedo.es/Teorema/English/Authors.html. Submissions must be&nbsp\;suitable for blind review. Both a DOC and a PDF document must be sent to the&nbsp\;Editor by September 15th 2012. Notification of intent to submit\, including&nbsp\;both a title and a brief summary of the content\, will be greatly appreciated&nbsp\;as it will assist with the coordination and planning of the special issue.

Guest Editor for this issue will be Dr. Jos&eacute\; Zalabardo&nbsp\;(University College&nbsp\;London).

Contact details for queries and submissions:

teorema
Prof. Luis M.
