The APA Committee on the Teaching of Philosophy (CTP) and the American Association of Philosophy Teachers (AAPT) seek panelists for a session on teaching the intellectual virtues at the AAPT-APA Teaching Hub at the 2018 APA Pacific Division meeting\, March 28&ndash\;April 1\, in San Diego\, CA.
\nWe envision three to four different presentations on teachers&rsquo\; curricula\, course assignments\, and classroom strategies for cultivating intellectual virtues in their students. While pedagogical methodologies are our primary interest\, we are open to proposals that\, in addition to pedagogical considerations\, explore the catalog\, meanings\, and limits of the intellectual virtues as we aim to cultivate them in our students.
\nConsistent with the ethos of the APA CTP and the AAPT\, we expect presentations to be short\, perhaps 20 minutes\, to allow for a rich discussion among panelists and participants as to how the intellectual virtues might be cultivated. We will appreciate proposals which include concrete ideas about how to make the session interactive.
\nSubmissions:
\nProposals of no more than 500 words\, prepared for anonymous review\, should be sent to Mark Jensen\, m.nathan.jensen@gmail.com\, by September 15\, 2017. Please include a brief explanation of both your approach to cultivating the intellectual virtues and your experiences doing so. Supporting material\, such as syllabi\, handouts\, or a CV\, is also welcome\; we are interested in ensuring representation of a range of voices.
\nDeadline for Proposals: September 15\, 2017
\nSelection of Presenters: October 1\, 2017 (expected)
\nQuestions about this session should also be directed to Mark Jensen at the above email address.
\nThe AAPT-APA Teaching Hub is a series of interactive workshops and conversations designed specifically for philosophers and created to celebrate teaching within the context of the APA divisional meetings.
