DESCRIPTION:<p>The principal aim of our Conference is to bring together philosophers\, logicians and linguists\; we would like the papers to address the following issues (the list is not exhaustive):</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Philosophy of language and linguistics: mutual inspirations</li>\n<li>Philosophy of language\, linguistics and literary theory</li>\n<li>Philosophical background of semantics and pragmatics</li>\n<li>Polish contribution to the development of the philosophy of language</li>\n</ul>\n<p>We plan a special session on&nbsp\;<strong>Philosophy of Language: The Legacy of Frege\, Russell\, and Wittgenstein</strong>.</p>\n<p>The following scholars have accepted our invitation to address the conference as plenary speakers:</p>\n<p><strong>Kasia Jaszczolt and Chi-H&eacute\; Elder</strong>&nbsp\;(University of Cambridge)</p>\n<p>Conditional utterances\, conditional thoughts\, and the limits of contextualism</p>\n<p><strong>Emma Borg</strong>&nbsp\;(University of Reading)</p>\n<p>Semantics and context-sensitivity</p>\n<p><strong>John Collins</strong>&nbsp\;(University of East Anglia)</p>\n<p>What is a variable such that a (natural) language may realise one?</p>\n<p><strong>Chris Fox</strong>&nbsp\;(University of Essex)</p>\n<p>The meaning of formal semantics</p>\n<p><strong>Gary Kemp</strong>&nbsp\;(University of Glasgow)</p>\n<p>Quine and Wittgenstein as regards linguistics as a science</p>\n<p><strong>Paul Livingston</strong>&nbsp\;(University of New Mexico)</p>\n<p>The Sense of Finitude and the Finitude of Sense</p>\n<p><strong>Mieszko Tałasiewicz</strong>&nbsp\;(University of Warsaw)</p>\n<p>Categorial grammar and the foundations of the philosophy of language</p>\n<p>Abstracts of papers\, in MS Word format\, of max. 300 words (followed by 5-7 key terms)\, should be forwarded by e-mail to:&nbsp\;philang2013@uni.lodz.pl</p>\n<p>Deadline for submission is&nbsp\;<strong>31 January 2012</strong>. Presentations should last maximum 30 minutes (including discussion and questions). Notification of acceptance will be sent by&nbsp\;<strong>1 March 2013</strong>.</p>\n<p>A volume of selected conference proceedings will be published with an international publisher\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;we also plan a special volume on The Legacy of Frege\, Russell\, and Wittgenstein.</p>\n<p>The conference fee is&nbsp\;<strong>175 EUR</strong>&nbsp\;(125 for doctoral students)\;&nbsp\;<strong>350 PLN</strong>&nbsp\;(175 for doctoral students) for participants from Poland. It covers the cost of participation\, conference materials and conference dinner.</p>\n<p>Accommodation will be provided at the University Conference Center\, Lodz\, Kopcinskiego 16/18 (www.csk.uni.lodz.pl).
