2018 marks the 10th anniversary of PACT. This is an opportune time to pause and reflect on what is significant about thinking in conversation with the &ldquo\;continental&rdquo\; traditions in the areas marked by the Pacific Rim: the West Coast of the United States\, the Pacific Northwest\, Alaska (host to the recent Sitka Institute)\, Hawai&rsquo\;i\, and Japan and China. What is distinctive about thinking in and of &ldquo\;the West&rdquo\;&mdash\;as defined\, for example\, as the area demarcated by Powell and Stegner&rsquo\;s famous 100th meridian? Or\, more broadly\, how is &ldquo\;continental&rdquo\; philosophy different in &ldquo\;the Pacific\,&rdquo\; that region that is home to PACT? A strong preference will be given to proposals that are explicitly reflecting on the theme. Proposals should be for papers that can be read in 20 minutes.
\nAbstracts of 500 words (or complete papers) addressing the topic of &ldquo\;Thinking in the West&rdquo\; can be submitted through email to Gerard Kuperus (gkuperus@usfca.edu). The deadline for submissions is
\nNovember 1\, 2017.
\nThe aim of PACT is to create a platform for philosophical dialogue on the West Coast. The annual conference alternates between Seattle (Seattle University)\, Hawai&rsquo\;i (University of Hawai&rsquo\;i\, Hilo)\, San Francisco (University of San Francisco)\, and LA (Loyola Marymount). PACT takes &ldquo\;Continental Philosophy&rdquo\; in its broadest sense\, and everyone with an interest in continental thinking is invited to send in a submission and to participate.
\nThe conference in Yosemite NP will be sponsored by CSU Stanislaus\, Loyola Marymount and the University of San Francisco
