The\n postgraduate community of the Central School of Speech and Drama\, \nUniversity of London invites proposals for papers and provocations for \ntheir January conference\, Performing Research: Creative Exchanges. \nEngaging with a wide variety of research areas in theatre and \nperformance including practice-as-research\, we welcome submissions from \npostgraduate students\, early career academics and independent \nresearchers. We particularly welcome philosophers who wish to contribute\n to our &lsquo\;Performance and Philosophy&rsquo\;\, 'Doing Gender' and &lsquo\;Mind and Body \nin Performance&rsquo\; working groups.
\nProspective Themes include\, but are not limited to\, the following:
\nPerformance and Philosophy \;
- Epistemology of Performance. \;
- Self and authenticity in performances. \;
- Phenomenological approaches to Theatre.
Mind and Body in Performance \;
- Cognitive science approaches to performance. \;
- The embodied\, embedded and extended mind hypotheses. \;
- Psychoanalysis and performance.
Doing Gender \;
- Gender identity and heteronormative representation. \;
- Queer bodies on stage and screen. \;
- The sexual politics of laughter.
The deadline for the submission of abstracts is Tuesday\, 15th November 2011. Please submit abstracts of no more than 500 words to \;shaun.may@cssd.ac.uk\,\n along with a brief biography including your name and institutional \naffiliation (if applicable) in a separate document. Documents should be \neither .doc or .pdf formats. \;
\nPaper\n presentations will be allocated 20 minutes of speaking time and 10 \nminutes of questions\, provocations will be allocated 10 minutes of \nspeaking time and 5 minutes of discussion. All presenters will have \naccess to Powerpoint\, and any further technical requirements should be \nspecified in the candidate&rsquo\;s abstract.
