DESCRIPTION:<p><strong>Queertopia! 6.0</strong></p>\n<p>Philosophical Investigations into Sexuality</p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp\;</strong></p>\n<p><strong>CALL FOR PAPERS</strong>: Northwestern University&rsquo\;s Queer Pride Graduate Student Association (QPGSA) is hosting its sixth annual conference April 12-14\, 2013. We invite papers and panels from graduate students and advanced undergraduate students that pose philosophical questions concerning sexual orientation\, sexual practice\, sexual identity and expression\, as well as gender and sex. Some questions one might explore include\, but are not limited to\, the following:</p>\n<p><u>METAPHYSICS &amp\; EPISTEMOLOGY </u></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Are there sexual perversions?</li>\n<li>What is pornography? Do we know it <em>in advance of </em>seeing it?</li>\n<li>What is sexual objectification?</li>\n<li>What is sexual or romantic love?</li>\n<li>What is the nature of homophobia? Transphobia? Misogyny? Misandry?</li>\n<li>Can children consent to sexual contact with others?</li>\n<li>Is there a place for queer epistemology?</li>\n</ul>\n<p><u>E</u><u>THICS AND </u><u>P</u><u>OLITICAL </u><u>P</u><u>HILOSOPHY </u></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Are all sexual acts between consenting adults permissible?</li>\n<li>Are the limits to the moral permissibility of pornography?</li>\n<li>Is sex work morally permissible?</li>\n<li>Do people have the moral obligation to come out as LGBTQ?</li>\n<li>Is sexual objectification an evil?</li>\n<li>How do we achieve sexual emancipation?</li>\n<li>Should there be legal sanctions against those who knowingly infect others with HIV?</li>\n</ul>\n<p><u>M</u><u>ETAPHILOSOPHY </u></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Are there genuine problems of the philosophy of sexuality\, or all the problems better solved by psychologists and other scientists?</li>\n<li>What is Queer Theory?</li>\n<li>What explains the paucity of contemporary philosophical reflection on issues of sexuality?</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Scholars from various philosophical traditions are welcome to participate as well as those from other disciplines who work at the interfaces of philosophy and sexuality.</p>\n<p>Please send 250-word abstracts\, estimated word count for papers\, and 75-word bio (for conference booklet) to QPGSA at <a href="mailto:nuqpgsa@gmail.com">nuqpgsa@gmail.com</a> by <strong>Feruary 15\, 2013&nbsp\;</strong>to be considered for participation.</p>\n<p>This year&rsquo\;s keynote is Patricia Marino of the University of Waterloo.&nbsp\; Professor Marino\, who primarily works on ethics\, philosophy of sex\, and epistemology\, is currently co-President of the Society for the Philosophy of Sex and Love.</p>
