DESCRIPTION:<p><strong>Theme:</strong> This conference aims to encourage diverse dialogues and provide a forum for philosophic work that is often undervalued by the canon or that connects the canon to broader contexts outside of philosophy &lsquo\;proper.&rsquo\; In particular\, we are interested in interrogating the concepts of diversity within the field (see Anderson and Erlenbusch 2017). Often diversity initiatives focus on increasing the number of underrepresented persons rather than on <em>changing</em> the field such that individuals with diverse experiences are included\, interested\, and welcomed. We hope that this conference offers a space for transformation\, as well as an opportunity for thinking about how we can collectively work toward such change.</p>\n<p><strong>Topic Areas:</strong> Race\, gender\, sexuality\, social ontology\, social justice movements\, feminist philosophy of science\, feminist epistemology\, inclusive pedagogy\, new takes on long-considered problems\, etc.&nbsp\; This list is not meant to be exhaustive.</p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp\;</strong></p>\n<p><strong>Keynote Speakers:</strong></p>\n<p><strong>Dr. Dale Turner</strong>\, Associate Professor of Government and of Native American Studies at Dartmouth College</p>\n<p>There will also be a Purdue Faculty Panel that is representative of the themes.</p>\n<p><strong>Call for Abstracts:</strong></p>\n<p><strong></strong>The Purdue Women in Philosophy invite graduate student submissions of extended abstracts (750-1000 words) on the themes of the conference. Abstracts should be prepared for anonymous review\, and submitted via email by January 19\, 2018. Submissions should be made to purduewomeninphil@gmail.com. Participants will be notified of decisions by February 2. Allotted presentation time for speakers will be 20 minutes with 10 minutes for Q&amp\;A.</p>\n<p><strong>Graduate Student Travel Awards:</strong></p>\n<p>The conference will also award one graduate student travel grant. The award will be given based on merit. Students that have been accepted to present at the conference may apply. To be considered for this award\, participants will submit a full (3000 word) paper to purduewomeninphil@gmail.com by March 2\, 2018. Papers should be prepared for anonymous review.
