DESCRIPTION:<p><strong>i(AS): integrated Art and Science symposium</strong></p>\n<p>While seemingly disparate disciplines\, there are numerous instances in which art and science converge to illuminate our understanding of the world and our place in it. The evolutionary biologist Ernst Haeckel\, for example\, was known not only for his extensive research on flora\, but also for his artistic depictions of botanical life. The bio-artist Eduardo Kac utilized resources from the molecular biological sciences to create a petunia that expresses a portion of his DNA. In the philosophy of science\, there are debates about the extent to which models in science represent the world\, or merely offer a fictional depiction of it. In the field of museum studies\, not only has scholarly attention has been placed on the role\, responsibilities\, and practices of both art and science museums\, but also the significance of the import of art in science exhibitions and science in art exhibitions. These are just a few examples in which art and science have\, and continued to\, intersect.</p>\n<p>The aim of the i(AS): integrated Art and Research symposium is to further explore this intersection\, by offering an interdisciplinary platform for graduates and postgraduates spanning all disciplines\, including (but not limited to):</p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>History of Science</p>\n</li>\n<li>\n<p>Philosophy of Science</p>\n</li>\n<li>\n<p>Aesthetics</p>\n</li>\n<li>\n<p>Art History</p>\n</li>\n<li>\n<p>(STS) Science and Technology Studies</p>\n</li>\n<li>\n<p>Visual Art</p>\n</li>\n<li>\n<p>Poetry</p>\n</li>\n<li>\n<p>Economics</p>\n</li>\n<li>\n<p>Museum Studies</p>\n</li>\n<li>\n<p>Biology</p>\n</li>\n<li>\n<p>Physics</p>\n</li>\n<li>\n<p>Psychology</p>\n</li>\n<li>\n<p>Museum Studies</p>\n</li>\n<li>\n<p>Journalism</p>\n</li>\n<li>\n<p>Social Science<br><br></p>\n</li>\n</ul>\n<p>For research paper presentations\, please send an abstract of up to 500 words prepared for anonymous review to integratedartandscience@gmail.com. For visual art presentations\, please send a short anonymized description of your work (between 100-500 words)\, along with relevant images and videos. Each submission should include a separate document with your name\, degree information\, and institutional affiliation. The deadline for all submissions is January 19\, 2018.</p>
