DESCRIPTION:
Call for Papers
\n
Themes: The conference aims to inspire questioning regarding perceptions of &lsquo\;the human&rsquo\; &ndash\; whether perception leads to recognition and solidarity or to objectification. This designation 'human' can be used beyond the mere identification of a species to underwrite exploitation\, exclusion\, denigration\, dehumanization and demonization of what is then designated&nbsp\;inhuman or nonhuman.
\n
https://theinhumangaze.com
\n
Topics can include\, but are not limited\, to:
\n
&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; the scientific/ medical/ psychiatric gaze
\n
&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; the psychopathological gaze
\n
&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; shame and the gaze of others
\n
&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; dehumanisation and demonization
\n
&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; violence/ torture
\n
&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; atypical social cognition
\n
&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; ideologies of exclusion- in-groups/ out-groups
\n
&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; interanimality
\n
&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; the inhuman gaze/ perceiving otherwise in aesthetics
\n
ABSTRACT SUBMISSION:
\n
The call for papers opens from January 19th 2018.&nbsp\; The deadline for submission has been extended to February 28th.&nbsp\; You will be notified of the outcome by March 2nd.&nbsp\;
\n
If your abstract is accepted\, you must register for the conference by March 3rd for your abstract to continue to be included.
\n
Abstracts should be sent to James Jardine (james.jardine@ucd.ie) by the extended deadline of February 28th.&nbsp\; Include two documents: (1) an information sheet with name\, title of paper\, affiliation\, status re. work and any other information relevant\; (2) the abstract (250 &ndash\; 400 words) must be anonymized for blind review.
\n
These are the possibilities:
\n
(1)For faculty &ndash\; 30 min presentation with 15 min discussion\; OR 20 min presentation with 10 min discussion.
\n
(2)&nbsp\;For grad students and postdocs &ndash\; you may apply to give a 20 min presentation with 10 min discussion\; OR to give a 10 min lightning presentation with 15 mins group discussion.
