DESCRIPTION:<p><strong>Call for Papers: Synthese Special Issue "True Enough? Themes from Elgin"</strong></p>\n<p><strong>Guest Editors:</strong> Federica Isabella Malfatti (University of Innsbruck)\, Christoph J&auml\;ger (University of Innsbruck)</p>\n<p><strong>Special Issue Description:</strong> The special issue discusses the philosophy of Catherine Z. Elgin. We call contributors' attention especially to Elgin's new book\, <em>True Enough</em>\, but will also welcome contributions on other aspects of her work. Topics may include: the nature and conditions of understanding\, especially the relation between understanding and knowledge\, understanding and explanation\, or understanding and exemplification\; holism in epistemology and the philosophy of science\; the notion of representation in the arts and in the sciences\; models\, idealizations\, and factivity\; coherence and epistemic justification\; and much more. We welcome submissions of individual papers critically discussing Elgin's work and/or exploring new ideas based on or connected to it. The special issue will also feature an article in which Elgin responds to the accepted papers.</p>\n<p><strong>Topics may include:</strong></p>\n<p>- From knowledge to understanding?</p>\n<p>- The nature and conditions of understanding</p>\n<p>- Exemplification</p>\n<p>- Holism in epistemology and the philosophy of science</p>\n<p>- Coherence and epistemic justification</p>\n<p>- (Scientific) representation</p>\n<p>- The epistemic role of idealizations\, models\, thought experiments&nbsp\;</p>\n<p><strong>Submissions:</strong></p>\n<p>We invite original contributions that have not been submitted elsewhere. It is recommended that submissions not exceed 10.000 words. Please include a separate title page containing the contact details of the author(s)\, an abstract (150-250 words) and a list of 4-6 keywords. All papers will be subject to double-blind peer-review. Manuscripts should be submitted online through Editorial Manager: http://www.editorialmanager.com/synt.
