DESCRIPTION:<p>The Graduate Philosophy Club at Virginia Tech\, together with the Minorities And Philosophy chapter at VT\, is pleased to annouce the 15th Annual Virginia Tech Graduate Conference in Philosophy. Our topic this year is <em><strong>Philosophy of Race\, Gender\, and Social Groups</strong>\,&nbsp\;</em>broadly construed.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>~</p>\n<p><strong>DATES</strong>: October 19th-20th\, 2018</p>\n<p><strong>CONFERENCE VENUE</strong>: Blacksburg\, Virginia</p>\n<p><strong>KEYNOTE SPEAKERS</strong>: Elizabeth Barnes (UVA) and Meena Krishnamurthy (U Michigan\, Ann Arbor)</p>\n<p>~</p>\n<p><strong>SUBMISSIONS</strong>:</p>\n<p>We are accepting papers for presentation at Virginia Tech's 15th annual graduate student conference in philosophy. We invite current graduate students to submit papers that philosophically engage with topics concerning social groups and social phenomena\, broadly construed. Submissions may be from any philosophical sub-field\, and may address\, e.g. metaphysical\, epistemic\, moral\, or political issues concerning social phenomena\, as well as questions regarding social phenomena in areas such as philosophy of science\, philosophy of mind\, or aesthetics. Suggested social groups and phenomena of interest may include but are not limited to the following:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>gender\, sex\, gender identity&nbsp\;</li>\n<li>race\, racial identity</li>\n<li>disability</li>\n<li>health\, well-being\, and the body</li>\n<li>sexuality\, sexual orientation</li>\n<li>class\, labour\, capital</li>\n<li>poorness\, poverty\, wealth\, privilege</li>\n<li>immigration\, borders\, illegalization\, citizenship</li>\n<li>colonialism\, decolonization</li>\n<li>human development</li>\n<li>science\, technology\, and values</li>\n<li>discrimination\, bias\, e.g. racism\, ableism</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Submission Guidelines</strong></p>\n<ol>\n<li>Papers should be prepared for anonymous review and submitted in .docx\, .doc\, or .pdf format to vt.gradphilclub@gmail.com</li>\n<li>Submissions may be up to 5\,000 words in length</li>\n<li>Please submit a separate cover sheet that includes your name\, contact information\, institutional affiliation\, keywords and relevant area(s) of research\, and a short abstract of approximately 300 words</li>\n</ol>\n<p><em><strong>We especially encourage submissions from members of groups historically underrepresented in philosophy.</strong></em></p>\n<p>Please direct questions about the conference to vt.gradphilclub@gmail.com</p>\n<p>For more information\, please see our website:&nbsp\;</p>
