LOCATION:350 Victoria Street\, Toronto\, Canada
DESCRIPTION:
This workshop is devoted to the broad theme of Nietzsche and politics. The first panel concerns Nietzsche&rsquo\;s relationship to Plato&rsquo\;s political thought. Hugo Drochon and Antoine Panaioti will present diverging answers to the seemingly simple question\, &lsquo\;Was Nietzsche a Political Platonist?&rsquo\;. The second panel concerns Nietzsche&rsquo\;s relationship to the contemporary crisis of post-truth. Here\, Ronald Beiner and Mark Migotti will offer differing accounts of Nietzsche&rsquo\;s responsibility for and role in the emergence of the post-aletheic age. This workshop does not aim for flacid consensus or timid agreement\, but for productive and\, it is hoped\, enlightening debate on some of the most fundamental questions concerning Nietzsche and politics.
\n
Date: &nbsp\; &nbsp\; &nbsp\; &nbsp\; &nbsp\; &nbsp\;Friday May 4\, 2018
\n
Time: &nbsp\; &nbsp\; &nbsp\; &nbsp\; &nbsp\; &nbsp\;8:45AM&ndash\;4:30PM
\n
Location: &nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;Kerr Hall East\, Room 216
\n
&nbsp\; &nbsp\; &nbsp\; &nbsp\; &nbsp\; &nbsp\; &nbsp\; &nbsp\; &nbsp\; &nbsp\; 350 Victoria Street\, Toronto
\n
&nbsp\;
\n
Opening address
\n
8:45AM&ndash\;9:00PM
\n
Panel 1: Was Nietzsche a Political Platonist?
\n
9:00AM&ndash\;12:00PM
\n
&ldquo\;Nietzsche and Plato&rsquo\;s Legislative Mission&rdquo\;
\n
Dr. Hugo Drochon\, University of Cambridge
\n
&ldquo\;Nietzsche on the Philosopher as Legislator: Contesting Plato&rdquo\;
\n
Prof. Antoine Pana&iuml\;oti\, Ryerson University
\n

\n
Panel 2: Nietzsche and Post-Truth
\n
1:30PM&ndash\;4:30PM
\n
&ldquo\;Nietzsche\, Politics\, and Truth in an Age of Post-Truth&rdquo\;
\n
Prof. Ronald Beiner\, University of Toronto
\n
&ldquo\;Facing Facts: Some Truths about Nietzsche on Truth&rdquo\;
\n
Prof. Mark Migotti\, University of Calgary
