SUMMARY:Acts and Omissions: Taking Stock and Future Directions
UID:20260608T193929Z-iCalPlugin-Grails@philevents-web-bd7db559-gt5qm
TZID:Australia/Sydney
LOCATION:Level 2 Mary Glowery Building\, 115 Victoria Parade\, Australia\, 3065
DESCRIPTION:
The acts and omissions distinction received a great deal of philosophical attention in the 1970s and 80s\, but since that time the amount of literature on the topic has decreased. On the face of it\, since no consensus has been reached\, this seems odd\, given the huge significance of the distinction. The aim of this&nbsp\;workshop is to take stock of where current thinking on the distinction has reached\, and to seek possible future directions for research.
\n\n
Lunch and refreshments will be provided.&nbsp\;If you would like to attend the workshop it will help us with the catering numbers&nbsp\;if you could please register in advance at:&nbsp\;https://irci.acu.edu.au/events/acts-and-omissions-taking-stock-and-future-directions/&nbsp\;
\n
Programme:
\n\n
10: Tea and coffee
\n\n\n\n
1015: Roger Crisp: Opening remarks
\n\n\n\n
1030: Stephanie Collins (ACU): Act and Omitting in Group-level Harms
\n\n\n\n
1145: Break for tea and coffee
\n\n\n\n
12-1315: Seth Lazar (ANU): Acts\, Omissions\, and Machine Intelligence
\n\n\n\n
&nbsp\;1315-1430: Lunch
\n\n\n\n
1430-1545: Holly Lawford-Smith (University of Melbourne): Omitting to Protest &amp\; Citizen Authorization of State Wrongdoing
\n\n\n\n
1545-1600: Break for tea and coffee
\n\n\n\n
1600-1715: Justin Oakley (Monash): Virtue ethics\, Acts vs. Omissions\, and Burdens of Proof&nbsp\;
\n\n\n\n
1715: Close
\n
