SUMMARY:Kuhn\, Coherentism and Perception

DESCRIPTION:<p>The talk will explore and further develop the coherentist interpretation of T.S. Kuhn&rsquo\;s epistemology proposed by Jouni-Matti Kuukkanen.&nbsp\; Kuukkanen&rsquo\;s coherentist interpretation of Kuhn is not entirely persuasive.&nbsp\; But it does merit further exploration. &nbsp\;I will argue that Kuhn&rsquo\;s model of scientific theory change has the capacity to withstand the &ldquo\;input&rdquo\; objection that has often been levelled against a coherentist epistemology\, namely\, that coherentism is unable to account for input from the external world.&nbsp\; I will also explore Kuhn&rsquo\;s rejection of what he characterized as a &ldquo\;philosophical paradigm initiated by Descartes&rdquo\; in the context of the coherentist (Sellarsian) rejection of the foundationalist &ldquo\;myth of the given&rdquo\;.</p>
