DESCRIPTION:<p>A worlkshop on what philosophers\, following a seminal 1991 paper by Daniel Dennett\, call the "real patterns" approach to the metaphysics of science.</p>\n<p>The idea in this approach is that is that inductive potential is to be identified with the <em>algorithmic</em><em> compressibility </em>of datasets\, and that\, furthermore\, the ontological commitments of theorists should be with those aspects of dataset that are exploited by compression algorithms.</p>
