DESCRIPTION:<p>As our political climate has shifted and norms of communication have been broken\, rebuked\, and revised\, the research of philosophers working on topics directly related to public discourse\, social identities\, oppression and liberation\, and revolution is increasingly valuable. However\, this value is not always recognized within the discipline itself. This conference aims to encourage diverse dialogues and provide a forum for philosophic work that is often undervalued by the canon or that connects the canon to broader contexts outside of philosophy &lsquo\;proper&rsquo\;. We hope that this conference offers a space for this work to be recognized\, disseminated\, and improved\, as well as an opportunity for thinking about how we can collectively work toward continuing to transform the discipline so this work is valued.</p>\n<p>The Purdue Women in Philosophy invite graduate student submissions of extended abstracts (750-1000 words) on the themes of the conference. Abstracts should be prepared for anonymous review and submitted via email by <strong>January 18\, 2019</strong>. Submissions should be made to <u><strong><a>winphil@purdue.edu</a></strong></u>. Participants will be notified of decisions by February 8\, 2019. Allotted presentation time for speakers will be 20 minutes with 10 minutes for Q&amp\;A. AV will be available for all papers.</p>\n<p><strong>Keynote Speaker:</strong> Dr. Serena Parekh</p>\n<p>Dr. Parekh works in social and political philosophy\, feminist theory\, and continental philosophy\, and her most recent work is on the refugee crisis and our moral obligations with respect to refugees.</p>\n<p><strong>Accessibility:</strong></p>\n<p>The venue of the workshop is accessible. Our aim is to plan the conference in a way that permits all participants to enjoy the full benefits of participation.
