DESCRIPTION:<p>Binghamton University&rsquo\;s philosophy graduate program invites submissions for its 2019 graduate student conference. The conference will be held at Binghamton University&rsquo\;s Downtown Center on Saturday November 2\, 2019.</p>\n<p>This year&rsquo\;s conference theme broadly focuses on our program&rsquo\;s specialization in Social\, Political Ethical and Legal (SPEL) philosophy. We hope to host a diversity of graduate research that asks important questions and starts meaningful dialogues on SPEL topics.</p>\n<p>Giving the keynote address will be Michael Patrick Lynch from University of Connecticut&rsquo\;s philosophy department. Lynch also has contributed to <em>New York Time&rsquo\;s</em> &ldquo\;The Stone&rdquo\; philosophy section\, and is principle investigator for the Humility and Conviction in Public Life project.</p>\n<p>Acceptable subgenres of SPEL themes include\, but are not limited to:</p>\n<p>&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Applied social and political philosophy</p>\n<p>&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Applied ethics</p>\n<p>&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Normative ethics</p>\n<p>&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Metaethics</p>\n<p>&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Critical theory</p>\n<p>&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Feminist philosophy</p>\n<p>&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Philosophy of race</p>\n<p>&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Social epistemology</p>\n<p>&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Philosophy of education</p>\n<p>&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Theories of risk</p>\n<p>Submissions in these areas from any philosophical tradition are also welcome.</p>\n<p>Submissions must include a full paper of about 3000-3500 words\, with a view for a 20-minute presentation followed by 10-minute Q&amp\;A. Each submission will be anonymously reviewed by conference committee members\, and submitters will be notified of acceptance or rejection by September 15.
