DESCRIPTION:
CfP: Workshop on Experimental Philosophy of Science
\n
October 15-16\, 2019 at Aarhus University in Denmark
\n
Experimental methods in philosophy were pioneered in the early 2000s and have been on the rise ever since. Experimental philosophy is not uncontroversial\, but it is undeniable that it has forced philosophers to critically reflect on traditional &lsquo\;armchair&rsquo\; philosophizing. In the philosophy of science experimental approaches have hitherto been comparably dormant. This is in some sense surprising: one may think that philosophers of science would be particularly receptive to approaches that promise more scientificity. It is the aim of this conference to explore reasons for this slow uptake and to encourage ways of bringing experimental methods to bear also in the philosophy of science by discussing opportunities and problems.
\n
\n
James Beebe (Buffalo)
\n
Finnur Dellsen (Iceland)
\n
Edouard Machery (Pittsburgh)
\n
Moti Mizrahi (Florida Tech)
\n
Michiru Nagatsu (Helsinki)
\n
Samuel Schindler (Aarhus)
\n
Jonah Schupbach (Utah)
\n
Andrew Shtulman (Occidental College\, LA)
\n
Deena Weisberg (Villanova University)
\n
\n
Since several of the invited women were unfortunately unavailable for this conference\, women are strongly encouraged to submit their abstracts to fill the remaining spots. Men (and other genders) are of course also welcome.
\n
Please send your abstracts of up to 500 words to samuel.schindler@css.au.dk\, using the subject line &ldquo\;XPhiSci 2019&rdquo\;. Deadline is April 21.
