DESCRIPTION:<p>We seek\noriginal\nessays that focus\non virtue ethics within\nthe phenomenological tradition\nor utilizing the phenomenological\nmethod.&nbsp\; Although virtue ethics is\na tradition that is\nwell suited to the depth\ndescriptions of phenomenology\, it remains\nlargely unthematized\nin the current literature on phenomenology.&nbsp\; The volume we are\nputting together will\nbegin to fill that gap\nin the phenomenological literature. There is\na rich diversity of topics in virtue ethics that can\nbe pursued from the perspective of\nphenomenology\, such\nas: the need for proper character\ndispositions (courage\, humility\,\njustice\, etc.)\; the fundamental\nquest for fulfillment\n(<em>eudaimonia</em>)\,\nwhich itself opens up a meditation on the bodily\, environmental\,\nsocial and intellectual excellences\; the role of moral\nexemplars\,\nthe dilemmas\nof ignorance and incontinence\, etc.</p>\n<ul>\n<li>In addition to\nessays doing historical\nwork\, we are looking for essays taking\na systematic\napproach or a practical\napproach (i.e.\, using or applying the\nphenomenological\nmethod).\nFinal essays should\nbe approximately 7000 words long\,\nincluding notes.<br><br></li>\n<li>The tentative working title of the volume is <em>Phenomenology and Virtue Ethics</em>.&nbsp\; We anticipate the volume being published through\nContinuum International Publishing Group as part of the\nseries\, <em>Issues in Phenomenology and Hermeneutics </em>(co-edited\nby one of the volume&rsquo\;s editors).<br><br></li>\n<li>Dates:<br>Extended\nabstract (400-800\nwords) or completed paper\ndue January 6\,\n2012.
