DESCRIPTION:<p>Predictive processing (PP) is often regarded as being internalist and representationalist\, and thus at odds with 4E cognition. Occasionally\, as in the work of Andy Clark\, PP is recruited as a perfect partner of 4E cognition. Here\, I argue that PP indeed is highly internalist but that it speaks meaningfully to several 4E phenomena. However\, rather than supporting existing internalist or 4E frameworks\, PP points to a new kind of synthesis of these frameworks.</p>\n<p>Jakob Hohwy is Professor of Philosophy at Monash University.&nbsp\;Jakob conducts interdisciplinary research in philosophy\, psychology\, and neuroscience. He focuses mainly on theories about brain function\, which say the brain is primarily a sophisticated hypothesis tester. He's interested in supervising projects in interdisciplinary philosophy and cognitive neuroscience. This includes the science of consciousness\, psychopathology\, perception science\, computational neuroscience\, philosophy of mind and cognition. He is author of The Predictive Mind (2013).</p>
