We invite submissions by graduate students currently enrolled in a doctoral programme in the Central European region (Austria\, Croatia\, Czech Republic\, Germany\, Hungary\, Poland\, Slovakia\, Slovenia\, Switzerland) for the 2nd Central European Graduate Conference in Ancient Philosophy. The conference will be held on 1&ndash\;2 November 2019 at Charles University in Prague\, Czech Republic.
\nOur goal is to bring together students based in the region who are working on innovative and groundbreaking doctoral projects in ancient philosophy\, and to provide them with the opportunity to present their work\, receive comments from fellow students and faculty\, and lead a discussion session on topics arising from their research.
\n\nKeynote speaker: Katerina Ierodiakonou (University of Geneva)
\n\nWe invite submissions of abstracts of dissertation chapters or abstracts of working papers (500&ndash\;1000 words) on any topic in the field of ancient philosophy. Submissions should focus on substantive discussion\, and generally avoid being introductory or merely describing the state of the art. Successful applicants will be offered up to 30 minutes to present their paper and wider research project. They will then receive a 15-minute response from an early-career researcher working on similar issues\, followed by 45 minutes of general discussion.
\n\nPlease submit your abstracts to ancientphilosophyprague@gmail.com\, accompanied by your full name\, institution and year of study by 15 July 2019. In order to facilitate blind review\, please prepare the attached document with all identifying information withheld. Successful applicants will be notified by 10 August 2019.
\n\nThe deadline for submitting the selected papers will be 6 October 2019. All papers will be circulated among the participants\; the format of the conference is pre-read.
\n\nAccommodation will be provided by the organisers for the duration of the conference. A limited amount of travel funds will be available to cover or subsidise travel costs.
\n\nBesides the quality of the abstracts\, diversity will be a criterion of the selection. We aim to represent as broad a range of Central European universities as possible.
\n\nWe especially welcome applications from members of groups that are currently underrepresented in the field of ancient philosophy.
