DESCRIPTION:<p>ACTION and ETHICS</p>\n<p>How\, Why\, Ought</p>\n<p>October 18th\, 2019</p>\n<p>UNIVERSITY of UTAH\, SALT LAKE CITY</p>\n<p>DEADLINE: September 1st</p>\n<p>KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Sarah Buss\, University of Michigan</p>\n<p>The 2019 University of Utah Graduate Student Philosophy Conference showcases exceptional work by graduate and advanced undergraduate students in all fields of philosophy.&nbsp\; The theme</p>\n<p>of the 2019 conference is an exploration of action and how our principles of practical reasoning inform our ethical decision making.&nbsp\; The conference will focus largely on the metaphysics of action insofar as it relates to personal identity\, moral reasoning\, and social discourse in an increasingly technological world.&nbsp\; Possible paper topics may include but are not limited to the following: heuristics for practical reasoning\, analysis related to the how and why be moral question\, theories of reasoning and rationality\, the taxonomy of identity\, navigating contemporary political and social discourse\,</p>\n<p>the structure of action\, meta-ethical concerns for a technological world\, psychology\, and relevant neuroscience.&nbsp\; Other related topics will be welcome.</p>\n<p>Email abstracts and full papers to spencer.ivy@utah.edu.&nbsp\; Papers should be suitable for a 25-minute presentation and a 20-minute follow-up Q&amp\;A.&nbsp\; Submissions should be prepared for blind review.&nbsp\; Please include a separate cover page with the following information:</p>\n<p>&bull\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Your name</p>\n<p>&bull\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Institutional affiliation</p>\n<p>&bull\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Title of the paper</p>\n<p>&bull\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Abstract (250 words or less)</p>\n<p>&bull\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Contact information (email)</p>\n<p>Priority will be given to complete papers.&nbsp\; Additionally\, The University of Utah Philosophy Program is happy to offer a cash prize to the distinguished student who submits the best paper.&nbsp\; Notification of acceptance will be sent by September 16th.</p>
