DESCRIPTION:<p>AEGEA (UAM) - Workshop on Epistemic Autonomy\, Trust\, and Testimony</p>\n<p>In her seminal paper (&ldquo\;Testimony and Epistemic Authority&rdquo\;)\, Elizabeth Fricker explored the prospects of an epistemology of testimony vis-&agrave\;-vis the feasibility of the ideal of epistemic autonomy. Relying on others and their words is a fundamental part of our epistemic lives\, yet it might involve certain epistemic risks. In view of it\, is the ideal of the self-reliant knower tenable? How should one keep one&rsquo\;s epistemic self-governance in situations of dependence on others and on technological devices? To what extent is the ideal of epistemic autonomy compatible with this dependence? These and other questions on the nature of epistemic autonomy will be discussed in the workshop.</p>\n<p>Keynote speaker:</p>\n<p>Elizabeth Fricker (University of Notre Dame)</p>\n<p>We invite researchers working on the topics of the workshop and interested in giving a talk to submit an abstract of approximately 1000 words to Jes&uacute\;s Vega (jesus.vega@uam.es). There are 4 presentation slots available (45 min. presentation + 30 min. Q.&amp\;A.)</p>\n<p>Deadline: July 29\, 2019</p>\n<p>Notification of acceptance: August 5\, 2019</p>\n<p>We will try to cover accomodation expenses for the speakers whose papers are accepted.</p>\n<p>The workshop f organized by AEGEA-Applied Epistemology Research Group (Autonomous University of Madrid) and funded by the research project "Intellectual Autonomy in Environments of Epistemic Dependence" (FFI2017-87395-P) of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation.</p>
