LOCATION:Kensington\, Australia
DESCRIPTION:
A workshop organised by the School of Humanities at the University of New South Wales and supported by the Institute for Social Transformation Research at the University of Wollongong.

Recent work in Anglo-American and Continental traditions of philosophy has led to convergence around a number of themes engaged by Continental philosophers and the American pragmatist tradition. These include pluralism\, constructivism\, anti-representationalism and relational approaches to subjectivity. Many of these themes are of central relevance for social and political theorists endeavouring to create new ways of thinking about social formations and transformations. Furthermore\, there has been a growing interest in the relationship of Nietzschean and post-Kantian thought and their influence on contemporary developments. Hegel\, especially\, is often understood to have developed an important\, non-metaphysical and antirepresentationalist approach to the relationship between thought\, the world and practical social activity.

The workshop on &lsquo\;Continental Philosophy and Social Transformation&rsquo\; will provide an opportunity for the exchange of ideas through the presentation of papers and critical responses\, which situate themes of social transformation in contemporary Continental Philosophy in relation to traditions of Pragmatism and post-Kantian philosophy.

On Thursday December 13 from 12.30pm and Friday December 14 from 9am.

Admission free but please RSVP for catering and room booking purposes to&nbsp\;Simone.Bignall@unsw.edu.au&nbsp\;by December 5\, 2012
