DESCRIPTION:
In her seminal paper ("Testimony and Epistemic Authority") Elizabeth Fricker explored propsects of an epistemology of testimony vis-&agrave\;-vis the feasibility of the ideal of epistemic autonomy. Relying on others and their words is a fundamental part of our epistemic lives\, yet it might involve certain risks. In view of it\, is the ideal of the self-reliant knower tenable? How should one keep one's epistemic self-governance in situations of dependence on others and on technological devices? To what extent is the ideal of epistemic autonomy compatible with this dependence? These and other questions on the nature of epistemic autonomy will be discussed in the workshop.&nbsp\;
