DESCRIPTION:<p>Is there a deep conflict between&nbsp\;the ways we understand ourselves and the world around&nbsp\;us in everyday life and&nbsp\;the often strange and unfamiliar ways that the sciences describe&nbsp\;aspects of these same realities?&nbsp\;Is there a systematic way to dissolved perceived&nbsp\;tension\, or do the challenges need to be addressed case-by-case (with the possibility of&nbsp\;failure in certain domains)?<br>Some of our speakers will approach these questions by exploring our experiential&nbsp\;representation of such categories as color\, time\, causation\, and agency\, while others will&nbsp\;do so by querying the ontologies implicit in the physical sciences and asking how we may&nbsp\;&lsquo\;locate&rsquo\; within them the presumedly non-fundamental objects and subjects of ordinary&nbsp\;experience.</p>
