DESCRIPTION:
Online Workshop: The Foundations of Human Equality
\n
22-24 September 2020\, University of Bern
\n
This event will be conducted online. Both synchronous and asynchronous participation are possible. For more information\, visit&nbsp\;https://www.humanequality-bern.com
\n
Most of us feel strongly committed to the basic moral equality of all human beings. Yet\, none of the existing attempts to locate a non-arbitrary ground for this commitment have proved fully convincing. The aim of the workshop is to address this shortcoming by providing an occasion to discuss the various questions and challenges to which the concept of human equality gives rise.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;
\n
Speakers:
\n
Kimberley Brownlee (University of British Columbia):&nbsp\;Are We Worth It? The Moral Status of a Destructive Species
\n
Michael Cholbi (University of Edinburgh):&nbsp\;Equal treatment and pluralism about moral standing
\n
Stephanie Elsen (Universit&auml\;t Bern):&nbsp\;The relation that ultimately matters
\n
Suzy Killmister (Monash University):&nbsp\;Constructing Moral Equality
\n
Nikolas Kirby (University of Oxford):&nbsp\;Equality in Judgment: Basic Equality as Liability to Judgment
\n
Costanza Porro (Universit&auml\;t Hamburg):&nbsp\;Moral Equality and Vulnerability: Towards a Relational Approach
\n
Andrea Sangiovanni (King&rsquo\;s College London/European University Institute):&nbsp\;Are We of Equal Moral Worth?&nbsp\;
\n
The workshop is hosted by the Institute of Philosophy at the University of Bern and organized by Stephanie Elsen and Andreas M&uuml\;ller. If you have any questions or want to register for the online event\, please write to&nbsp\;ws.foundations.human.equality@gmail.com. Please register by 15 September.
\n
