\nBeyond the binary: workshop on genderqueer identities and social constructionism
People who identify as genderqueer (e.g.\, non-binary\, agender or gender fluid) essentially reject the idea that one has to choose between being a man or a woman. Instead\, they take themselves to be either genderless or somewhere on a spectrum. Genderqueer identities appear to contradict traditional biological notions of gender. However\, they also seem to be in tension with views according to which gender identity is socially constructed. This workshop discusses the ontology of genderqueer identities further\, especially in light of the idea that gender is constructed.
Keynote \;speakers:
Robin \;Dembroff \;(Yale)

Call \;for \;abstracts:
We invite papers on all topics concerning the emerging philosophy of genderqueer identities. Papers can involve questions such as: How should genderqueer identities be conceptualized? What kind of challenges do genders that do not fit into the binary model pose for established theories of gender? Is genderqueer a natural kind\, or a group of natural kinds? How does empirical research on genderqueer identities inform ontological questions of the spectrum of genders? Accepted abstracts approach the metaphysics of gender from the viewpoint of genderqueer (non-binary\, gender fluid\, agender etc.) identities. Interdisciplinary papers on the topic are especially welcome and members of underrepresented groups in philosophy are encouraged to submit papers.
Abstracts should be anonymized and between 500 and 1000 words long. The deadline for submissions is 28 February\, 2020 and decisions will be made within two weeks. Here is how you can anonymise your abstract with word: \;https://helpdesk.law.wfu.edu/support/solutions/articles/4000108127-microsoft-word-metadata-removal-instructions-mac-
