DESCRIPTION:<p>The workshop 'Linguistic Understanding: Perception and Inference' will take place in Oslo on the 13th and 14th of August 2020. &nbsp\;</p>\n<p>The workshop will focus on the question of how we come to understand what other people say to us on particular occasions\, and in particular on what the role of inference and perception is in achieving such understanding. Can semantic properties be perceived? Is our access to the force and content of others&rsquo\; utterances inferential in nature? If so\, how should we conceive of the inferences involved? What would different answers to the above questions imply for the epistemology of linguistic understanding?
