We welcome submission of extended abstracts from graduate students and early career researchers (within two years of the award of their PhD) for presentations at the Linguistic Understanding: Perception and Inference Workshop\, which will take place in Oslo on the 13th and 14th of August 2020. \;
\nThe workshop will focus on the question of how we come to understand what other people say to us on particular occasions\, and in particular on what the role of inference and perception is in achieving such understanding. Can semantic properties be perceived? Is our access to the force and content of others&rsquo\; utterances inferential in nature? If so\, how should we conceive of the inferences involved? What would different answers to the above questions imply for the epistemology of linguistic understanding? We welcome submissions on these and related topics from a variety of perspectives\, including epistemology\, philosophy of perception and cognition\, philosophy of language\, and pragmatics. \;
\nIn order to be considered\, please submit an abstract of no more than 1000 words (not including references) to linguisticunderstanding@gmail.com by April 17. The abstract should outline the paper&rsquo\;s central argument in addition to its main claims. Please send a pdf file prepared for blind review. \;
\nTwo submissions will be selected for presentation at the workshop in Oslo. We will fully cover travel and accommodation. We especially encourage submissions from members of underrepresented groups in philosophy. \;
