UID:20260405T235836Z-iCalPlugin-Grails@philevents-web-f5d4878dd-4s97k

LOCATION:Universitätsstrasse 7\, Vienna\, Austria\, A-1010
DESCRIPTION:
Contemporary debates on knowledge tend to revolve around the acquisition of&nbsp\;knowledge\, the conference will therefore focus on the sources of knowledge.&nbsp\;Possible candidates for such sources of knowledge seem to be perception\,&nbsp\;memory\, logical reasoning\, testimony\, or intuitions. But there is no&nbsp\;agreement on which of these are sources of knowledge in their own right\, and&nbsp\;which can be reduced to others\; in which epistemological processes they are&nbsp\;involved\; or what sort of justification they each require or yield.
\n
In order to tackle these questions we invite high-quality papers from&nbsp\;graduate students on the following or related topics:
\n
\n
Reductionism and non-reductionism in the case of testimony
\n
Do testimony or memory transmit knowledge or do they generate new&nbsp\;knowledge?
\n
What connection is there between trust and testimony?
\n
What are intuitions?
\n
Can knowledge be obtained through intuitions\, and if so\, how?
\n
Is theory ladenness a problem for perception as a source of knowledge?
\n
How is a priori knowledge possible?
\n
Is all / some / any knowledge propositional?
\n
\n
Submission information:
\n
Deadline for submission of abstracts: February 28\, 2013
Notification of acceptance: March 15\, 2013

Abstracts of approximately 500 words should be in English and prepared for&nbsp\;blind review. The author&rsquo\;s name\, affiliation\, the title of the submitted&nbsp\;paper\, and e-mail address must be included in a separate document. Files can&nbsp\;be submitted in PDF\, RTF or DOC(X) and should be sent to&nbsp\;sebastian.kletzl@univie.ac.at.

All abstracts will be reviewed by members of the Vienna Forum for Analytic&nbsp\;Philosophy and faculty members of the Department of Philosophy at the&nbsp\;University of Vienna. Accepted papers should be suitable for a 30-min&nbsp\;presentation (approx. 3.000 words).

Registration:
\n
Attendance of the conference is free\, but participants are asked to register&nbsp\;by e-mail to&nbsp\;sebastian.kletzl@univie.ac.at.

For further information about the Vienna Forum for Analytic Philosophy\,&nbsp\;please visit our website:
