DESCRIPTION:
Glasgow MAP chapter is hosting an online workshop focused around the Black Lives Matter movement
\n
Speakers:
\n
Dr. Emmalon Davis (University of Michigan)
\n
Prof. Charles Mills (City University of New York)
\n
Topic&nbsp\;The workshop is intended to give a platform to speakers and participants to discuss the issues that have been brought into focus by the movement\, such as systemic and structural racism\, police brutality\, racial profiling\, inequality\, protesting\, as well as (more broadly) inclusion and diversity. As a MAP chapter\, we are additionally interested in how these issues relate to academic philosophy on a practical level. This workshop explores how the challenges presented by the BLM movement could or should find their place in academia (e.g.\, what measures can we take to guarantee the representation and safety of staff and students from ethnic minorities in philosophy?). To this end\, we also encourage speakers and participants to share their own experience as a minority in philosophy if they feel comfortable doing so.
\n

\n
Format
\n
- 25-30 minute talk by a keynote
\n
- Break-off into smaller groups for discussion (20 mins)
\n
- Larger group Q&amp\;A/discussion (20-30 mins)
\n
Workshop Info&nbsp\;The workshop will take place at 3pm (BST) over Zoom. Details of how to access the workshop via Zoom are available from the 'Online Event' page which you can access if you have registered for the event.
