DESCRIPTION:
Catarina Dutilh Novaes&rsquo\;s forthcoming book is entitled&nbsp\;The Dialogical Roots of Deduction: Historical\, Cognitive\, and Philosophical Perspectives on Reasoning.&nbsp\; With incredible breadth and depth\, it presents an eye-opening new perspective on the nature of deductive reasoning.&nbsp\; Its central hypothesis is that &ldquo\;deductive reasoning is essentially a dialogical phenomenon.&rdquo\;&nbsp\; Dutilh Novaes argues for this hypothesis by demonstrating its explanatory power not only in debates about logic and consequence\, but also as a tool for understanding the history and psychology of deductive reasoning\, as well as its role in mathematical practice.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;The book will serve as the theme for the 2020 meeting of the Canadian Society for Epistemology.
\n
The languages of the symposium are English and French.
