DESCRIPTION:
Event Description: Philosophy professors today are familiar with the challenges of teaching students who believe that all questions (or all questions worth asking) can be or have been resolved by science. How can we effectively teach philosophy\, including the rich Catholic Intellectual Tradition\, in light of such challenges?
\n
This seminar aims to share strategies and resources for teaching philosophy\, both in the classroom and online\, with an eye toward helping students think critically about their own scientistic prejudices.
\n
This event will include a series of brief presentations\, followed by group discussion. All participants are welcome to bring their own ideas and resources to the conversation.
\n
This event will take place Saturday\, January 9 from 12:00 PM to
\n
1:30 PM (EST) at https://lmula.zoom.us/j/7397825292
\n
Contact: david.kovacs@lmu.edu&nbsp\;
\n
SCHEDULED TALKS
\n
David Kovacs (Loyola Marymount University): &ldquo\;When All Scientific Questions Have Been Answered: Thoughts on Aquinas and Wittgenstein&rdquo\;
\n
Bruno Cassara (Fordham University): &ldquo\;Phenomenology: Faithfulness to Experience&rdquo\;
\n
Joe Vukov (Loyola University Chicago): &ldquo\;What Science Gets You (And What It Doesn't) In Pursuit of Truth&rdquo\;
\n
Kelsey Boor (Fordham University): &ldquo\;Scientific Facts or Philosophical Values: Teaching the Ethics of Abortion\, Euthanasia\, and Climate Change&rdquo\;
\n
Stephen Ferguson (Fordham University): &ldquo\;Wonder-Wounded Hearers: Replanting Science in the Good Earth&rdquo\;
