DESCRIPTION:<p>Religion &amp\; Belief have been a central part of human history\, playing a&nbsp\;fundamental role in forming and shaping human society. They are at the&nbsp\;root of many of humankind's activities and achievements\, from great&nbsp\;works of art to social and political institutions. &nbsp\;In the context of&nbsp\;21st century multiculturalism\, where negotiation between differing&nbsp\;religious and social beliefs is a daily reality in many societies\, the&nbsp\;nature\, role and effect of religion and belief are still important&nbsp\;issues to be discussed. &nbsp\;The 'New Atheist' movement\, that wishes to&nbsp\;firmly separate the moral landscape from Religious institutions\, asks&nbsp\;important questions regarding the relationship between morality and&nbsp\;religion. Can ancient or contemporary religion be seen as amoral?&nbsp\;Within a culture where religion is so often portrayed as a personal\,&nbsp\;individual experience\, is it right for individual beliefs to influence&nbsp\;and shape society? &nbsp\;The conference aims to reflect such discussions.<br><br>The issue of Religion &amp\; Belief from the ancient world and beyond is a&nbsp\;major issue that attracts substantial research in Classics\, and also&nbsp\;throughout the Humanities.
