DESCRIPTION:
Professor&nbsp\;Benjamin Schnieder&nbsp\;&amp\; the&nbsp\;phlox research group&nbsp\;are proud to announce the second&nbsp\;Hamburg Summer School in Philosophy\, featuring Professor&nbsp\;Kit Fine&nbsp\;(Silver Professor of Philosophy &amp\; Mathematics at NYU).

Course Description:&nbsp\;This course examines and develops a version of situation semantics called truthmaker semantics. Under situation semantics\, it is parts of the world rather than the whole world that are taken to verify a statement\; under truthmaker semantics\, the situation which is the verifier must be wholly relevant to the statement that is verified. This new truthmaker semantics is\, it will be contended\, relevant to a wide range of problems in the philosophy of language\, philosophical logic\, linguistics\, the philosophy of science and artificial intelligence\, while the resulting semantic notion of truthmaker verification is a kind of semantic counterpart to the metaphysical notion of ground. The first part of the course provides a basic exposition of the semantics\; while the second part of the course considers a number of different applications of the semantics. Special emphasis will be placed on the notion of partial content\, which derives from Kant?s notion of an analytic truth and provides an alternative to the notion of logical consequence in dealing with many of these problems.

During the course\, Prof. Fine will present and lead discussion on both published and unpublished work on the topic\; opportunities for presentations from participants will also be provided.&nbsp\;

Registration:&nbsp\;there is space for a limited number of external participants. If you would like to participate\, please send a registration email\, appending (i) a brief CV and (ii) a short letter indicating how the course would benefit your work\, to: sommerkursATgmx.de.&nbsp\;

Please note there is a registration fee of&nbsp\;20&euro\;\, to ensure we can provide drinks and sweets during the coffee breaks.

Further information&nbsp\;- More information regarding the Summer School is available on the&nbsp\;course website\, but if you have any questions\, please feel free to contact the organizers at 'sommerkursATgmx.de'.
