DESCRIPTION:
The late Kenyan Prof. H. Odera Oruka (1944-1995) contributed&nbsp\;significantly to the growth of contemporary African philosophy\, and&nbsp\;helped locate African philosophy within the global philosophical&nbsp\;discourse. His work in areas such as normative and applied ethics\,&nbsp\;political philosophy\, epistemology\, and\, most notably\, philosophic&nbsp\;sagacity\, continues to play a pivotal role in the current discourse&nbsp\;on African philosophy. He was also one of the founders of "Thought and&nbsp\;Practice: A Journal of the Philosophical Association of Kenya"\, which&nbsp\;is currently an online\, open access\, bi-annual peer-reviewed&nbsp\;publication found at&nbsp\;http://ajol.info/index.php/tp/index. His&nbsp\;untimely demise in December 1995 therefore robbed the worldwide&nbsp\;philosophical fraternity of an illustrious scholar at the prime of&nbsp\;his career.

We are pleased to announce a three-day Symposium in memory of Prof.&nbsp\;Oruka to be held at the Goethe-Institut Auditorium\, Nairobi\, Kenya&nbsp\;from Tuesday 19th to Thursday 21st November\, 2013. Towards this end\,&nbsp\;the Symposium Organizing Committee invites papers on any aspect(s) of&nbsp\;his philosophy.

The Committee also wishes to emphasise that in view of Prof. Oruka&rsquo\;s&nbsp\;own leanings towards interdisciplinary scholarship\, papers that take&nbsp\;an interdisciplinary approach shall be considered alongside those&nbsp\;focusing on more specialized aspects of his thought.

Submission Guidelines
\n
\n
An abstract of not more than 300 words should be submitted not&nbsp\;later than 31st March\, 2013.
