The late Kenyan Prof. H. Odera Oruka (1944-1995) contributed \;significantly to the growth of contemporary African philosophy\, and \;helped locate African philosophy within the global philosophical \;discourse. His work in areas such as normative and applied ethics\, \;political philosophy\, epistemology\, and\, most notably\, philosophic \;sagacity\, continues to play a pivotal role in the current discourse \;on African philosophy. He was also one of the founders of "Thought and \;Practice: A Journal of the Philosophical Association of Kenya"\, which \;is currently an online\, open access\, bi-annual peer-reviewed \;publication found at \;http://ajol.info/index.php/tp/index. His \;untimely demise in December 1995 therefore robbed the worldwide \;philosophical fraternity of an illustrious scholar at the prime of \;his career.
We are pleased to announce a three-day Symposium in memory of Prof. \;Oruka to be held at the Goethe-Institut Auditorium\, Nairobi\, Kenya \;from Tuesday 19th to Thursday 21st November\, 2013. Towards this end\, \;the Symposium Organizing Committee invites papers on any aspect(s) of \;his philosophy.
The Committee also wishes to emphasise that in view of Prof. Oruka&rsquo\;s \;own leanings towards interdisciplinary scholarship\, papers that take \;an interdisciplinary approach shall be considered alongside those \;focusing on more specialized aspects of his thought.
