DESCRIPTION:
T.M.Scanlon's theory of morality centers on his account of moral motivation\, which provides a characterization of narrow moral wrongness and defends common assumptions about its importance and practical authority. This conference is loosely focused on the accounts of moral motivation and the value of self-governing persons that Scanlon has defended (most prominently in chapters 2 and 4 of What We Owe to Each Other) and various possible alternatives\, e.g. Kantian\, Utiltarian\, and Virtue Ethical ones.
