DESCRIPTION:<p>The distinction between doing and letting happen is a main point of contention in the debate between consequentialist ethics\, on the one hand\, and deontologist and virtue ethics\, on the other hand. Whereas consequentialists usually think that the distinction is morally irrelevant\, Kantians and (most) virtue ethicists disagree. In this &ldquo\;bridiging-the-divide&rdquo\; colloquium the two approaches will enter into conversation\, with philosophers from different sides of the debate engaging with one another: Alastair Norcross (Colorado) will present the consequentialist perspective in the opening talk\, Tim Henning (Mainz) and Fiona Woollard (Southampton) will offer responses.
