DESCRIPTION:
Call for Abstracts
\n
Sam Harris: Critical Responses
\n
Published by Carus Books
\n
This book\, the second in the series beginning with Jordan Peterson: Critical Responses (now in press)\, will be a collection of critical responses focused on Sam Harris&rsquo\;s ideas. While complying with scholarly standards of accuracy and cogency\, we&rsquo\;re looking for user-friendly essays with immediate appeal to those who follow Harris (sympathetically or unsympathetically)&mdash\;direct and unpretentious prose which will be immediately readable by the intelligent non-academic. So\, substantial critical content\, but written in a clear and entertaining style\, aimed at an intelligent\, lay audience is desired.
\n
Papers must focus on topics or ideas that are significantly connected to the life\, work\, or cultural impact of Sam Harris\, but especially to the actual content of the ideas he advocates. We expect the chapters to come from diverse points of view\, rather than reflecting any specific standpoint.
\n
Papers should not be primarily expressions of agreement or disagreement with Harris&rsquo\;s general outlook\, but should critically and fairly assess particular aspects of Harris&rsquo\;s thinking. Any relevant topic will be considered\, but some possibilities include Harris&rsquo\;s ideas on free will\, religion\, atheism\, political correctness\, mindfulness\, moral objectivity\, truth\, well-being\, and artificial intelligence.
\n
Submission Guidelines:
\n
1. Submission deadline for abstracts (300 words) and CV(s): December 15\, 2021
\n
2. Notification of accepted abstracts: January 15\, 2022
\n
3. Final papers should be approximately 4000 words. Submission deadline for drafts of papers: April 30\, 2021.
\n
3. Submit materials by e-mail to Sandra Woien at: swoien@pm.me
\n
Carus Books is now taking over the publishing mission of Open Court Publishing Company.
