\nIn 1978\, the French philosopher Jacques Derrida began a year-long seminar at the Ecole normale supé\;rieure in Paris entitled &ldquo\;Donner&mdash\;le temps.&rdquo\; He would go on to publish the first five sessions of that seminar\, largely unchanged\, in 1991\, following an invitation to give the Carpenter Lectures at the University of Chicago. This text became \;Given Time\, Volume 1: Counterfeit Money. As his title indicated\, however\, this was to be only the first such intervention: a second text\, under the same name\, was planned soon to follow. Despite this indication\, no other volumes ever materialized during his lifetime. Now some thirty years after its initial announcement\, the much-anticipated second volume to \;Given Time \;is finally set to be published in the Fall of 2021. The symposium\, &ldquo\;Given Time in Three Times: 1978-79\, 1991\, 2021&rdquo\;\, will be one of the first events worldwide to address this new material. Over a two-day period\, it will afford scholars from multiple disciplines\, across the humanities\, the opportunity to reappraise Derrida&rsquo\;s \;Given Time \;as well as to reflect on the theoretical significance of &ldquo\;the gift\,&rdquo\; within the fields of Continental Philosophy\, Literature\, History\, Anthropology\, Art\, Religion\, and Economics.
